Pumpkins, Pumpkins, and More Pumpkins

Since tomorrow is going to be a crazy day with the kids so excited for Halloween, I decided to give in a bit and have some fun. We are going to carve a pumpkin together and write about how-to carve a pumpkin.

We are going to do some of the fun pumpkin activities found at Christina Bainbridge's awesome blog.

I also created a fun writing for the kids to do sometime this week about what happens to pumpkins when Halloween is over. I love the book "Snowmen at Night" and I thought this could be written in the same way.

Our school had our annual Bluegrass and BBQ on Friday night and each class painted a pumpkin. My class decided to paint Mercy Watson. She turned out pretty good.
Here's a picture of our pumpkin before the tiara and I added huge google eyes.I forgot to take a picture of the finished product.

Can you believe it sold for $17? My kids' parents were outbidding each other. Hope you have a good Halloween at school. It's going to be a crazy Monday!

Over the next 2 weeks, my students will be learning about making predictions. I have found with this particular bunch of students, the more pre-reading thinking and writing they do, the more concrete it becomes for them. They really struggle with comprehension.

Head on over to see what I have planned for Making Predictions!

Frankly, We are Drug Free!

I just posted an idea for a red ribbon week door decoration.  Or just a cute Halloween craft focusing on shapes.  Come over and check it out!

New Treasures Unit and a Questioning Freebie

Happy Saturday everyone! I can't believe how cold it's gotten here in the last day. We're not expecting any snow in Tennessee like some of your northerners but it is going to be chilly sitting at the UT football game tonight. I've finished my next Treasures unit for "Head, Body, Legs." Here are some images from the unit.

Check it out at Teacher's Pay Teachers and Teacher's Notebook. Click on the links below.

Here's a questioning freebie for you. We've been working on generating questions while we read during reading groups. This is a form I've used to help the kids keep track of their questions.

Visit me at my blog for the link to the freebie.

Hope you have a wonderful Saturday!

Rockin' Teacher Materials: Guided Reading Goal Setting Bookmarks: Do your kids walk away from your guided reading table acting like they know what their reading goal is...then the next time you see them, they have no idea what their goal was? Rock on over to Rockin' Teacher Materials to see how I fixed this problem in my room!

Favorite Halloween Books and 2 freebies!

I have added 2 freebies to share with y'all! They are for some great holiday books, Spookley the Square Pumpkin and Room on the Broom. What's great is that if you don't have these books, they are both on You Tube!
Spookley is great for several ideas: bullying, perimeter {make little pumpkins then measure the lengths}, and he's just so darn cute!

I just bought Room on the Broom! It's hilarious. I made 2 comprehension sheets for it centering in the main event. Click the picture to download the comprehension sheets for Room on the Broom

Later this week I will share some goodies I am using next Monday for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and inference.

Treat or Treat #2

I don't know if you're like me but teaching money is always difficult. Usually, we teach it after Christmas but we have a new math series. We had five days to teach money. Well, my colleagues and I decided we needed a bit more time so we are doing it for a few more days. My kiddos need a little bit more practice so I made a fun money game that you can use at Halloween or, really, any time of the year. Hope you enjoy it!
