Developing Class Rules as a Community

I'm sure you've all been working hard to get your classroom ready, if you're not already back in school.  

I've been stressing out since I haven't been able to get into my classroom, so I'm trying to use my time focused on other things I can do to prepare, and hoping I don't completely freak out!

Yesterday, I went through my materials for developing Class Rules with the children, and adapted them to include the Whole Brain Teaching rules.  Come see what I've done, and download your freebie!  (Click the Class Rules image!)

Whole Brain Teaching ~ Teach-Ok!

Whole Brain Activator: It takes learning to a new level. They have to listen attentively to you because they know in a few minutes, they will have to teach their neighbor. Then they have to use your words and their own words to teach their neighbor the concept you just taught to them.

 Teacher, "When I say teach, you say ok! Turn your body completely to your neighbor and teach them what I just said."

Clap a pattern. Teacher, "Teach!"

Copy the pattern. Kids, "OK!"

Classroom Helper Ideas

Hi Gang!  I'm Victoria, a 2nd grade teacher from North Carolina, and one of the newest authors on the Me and My Gang crew.  If you are anything like me, you may have always given every child in your class a job every week...but something always went wrong along the way.  Last year I was very organized and had a schedule for the entire year of what student would do which job at what time.  I've found in my experience that some jobs wouldn't get done, and some kids would forget what job they had.  This year I have changed up how I'm doing my helpers.  Maybe my new idea can help you too!

I've decided to have two helpers each day (one boy and one girl) that will do all of the class jobs for the day. They will wear a special name tag so we all know who has the job and at the end of the day they will draw numbers for the next days helpers.

The Scoop on Groups

Woo to the hoo!  I'm so excited to be a contributing author of Me and My Gang!  What a great place to come together as 2nd grade teachers and share our ideas, our successes, and our funny stories.  Of course, if you don't teach 2nd grade, you'll find AMAZING ideas here that you can easily tweak for your grade level.
