Heart Map for Prewriting
I am not an artist.
|
We are just beginning our year, so I wanted to get my students thinking about what they can write about. So many times, I have to give them a prompt, but I do try to let them free write periodically. I wanted them to have something to pull from that was personal.
I didn't want to give them a template. I wanted it to be unique to each student. I showed them my example and here are some of the results!

Nonfiction Note Taking
Hi everyone! This is Lynda from Curls and a Smile!
We have been taking a close look at nonfiction text and all the wonderful ways to take information from what we read to build our understanding of the world around us. The students are in L.O.V.E. with reading these exciting and interesting text and as we know good readers build strong writers! So, here is a great way to gather information as they read and develop their brainstorming and note taking techniques and prepare to write all of their favorite topics!!
The students conducted their own research using a variety of nonfiction texts that go along with what they read in their reading series and science textbooks.

Time Flies By....and some Seussish Snacks
HI all! My kids are working on following directions as a reading skill. I decided to incorporate it into writing as well. Last week, we worked on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as our first writing. Then on Friday, we wrote how to make green eggs and ham. Then we made them!
I found some really cute Seuss snacks on the web, so this week we are making those! Come over to see the free writing response I created. Hopefully, someone else will be able to use them!
