Twelve About Twelve

Did you realize this Wednesday is 12-12-12?  Did you realize this won't happen again until December 12, 2112?  We won't have triple numbers like that until January 1, 2101, and I have a feeling I won't be around by then!

When I realized 1,212 was my the number of "likes" I have on facebook, I thought I might have some fun by brainstorming 12 things we can have kids do to celebrate 12-12-12! Come on over to Elementary Matters to download this Cuisenaire Rod freebie, and see lots of other ideas to celebrate 12-12-12!

Reading at Home - Parent Handout

This handout lists ways parents can help their child become a better reader at home.  It would be a great communication tool to send home with a weekly newsletter or to give out at conferences or parent nights!

The Everything Tool Kit

I like to have plenty of tools available for my students to help the learning along.  I've spent hours making tools and charts for every subject.  My plan for Back to School is to have the children keep a folder in their desk for every subject, and they'll be decorating each folder with the tools.  I have a sample freebie that you can see in this image that includes some math, some reading, and some Science tools.  Come on over to Elementary Matters to download your freebie and see more of the Everything Tool Kit.

For the 35th Time, Ending on a Monday

I have officially lived through 35 "last days of school" as a teacher.  (I'm not doing the math to include my last days of school as a student!)  This year ended up being one of my favorites.  Read on at Elementary Matters to find why, and to get a free copy of Things to Do During the Summer So the TV Doesn't Suck Out Your Brain, written by my students.

Leaving Tracks of My Thinking

My 2nd graders have been so busy practicing their reading strategies, and I am so proud of them.  It is very exciting to see them THINK while they are reading.  This year we have been utilizing The Comprehension Toolkit by Stephanie Harvey and Anne Goudvis, and the results are truly amazing.  Jump on over to I Love 2 Teach to grab a couple of freebies and see how I help my kiddos make text-to-text connections with fiction.
